The International Office at Daejeon University is exceptional in its dedication to assisting international students. The staff is always ready to help with any issues related to adaptation, from navigating bureaucratic processes to providing emotional support. This level of care ensures a smooth and enjoyable transition to living and studying in Korea.


 

Question 2. What is academic life like for international students at Daejeon University?

Academic life at Daejeon University is quite similar to other universities in South Korea. At Daejeon University, almost all undergraduate to doctoral programs still use Korean as the medium of instruction. However, for writing the final project, known as the thesis, students can choose between using Korean or English. Some departments require students to write in Korean, while others mandate the use of English. The requirements depend on the department and the Professors.

In addition to academics, International students at Daejeon University have the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities. These trips provide a deeper understanding of Korea’s rich cultural heritage and make the stay in Korea much more fulfilling.

For example, a trip to Jeonju was organized before the final exams in the fall semester of 2023, and another trip to Gyeongju was held before the final exams in the spring semester of 2024. These trips are designed to relieve stress before exams and provide a break from academic pressures.

These trips are not only for international students but also include Korean students. Participation is limited, and students usually need to register in advance, operating on a first-come, first-served basis. Through these programs, students can explore different regions of South Korea and interact with Korean students, fostering a sense of community and mutual cultural understanding.
